a Christmas Prayer

Baby Jesus, did you know,
in your manger long ago,
how little might change in hearts of greed -
how lost your lesson of love indeed?

Baby Jesus, could you see
starvation amid plenty,
paradise wasted, unending war?
Does hope shine by the light of your star?

Baby Jesus, can you hear
cries of sleepless children there?
Faithless, fearful, forsaken, forlorn,
forgotten, Jesus - why were they born?

Baby Jesus, will you pray
for us on this Christmas day?
“Forgive them. They know not what they do.”
Work a miracle - teach us anew.
